Trying to get my computer to go back to loading full when first turned on instead of stopping at the administrator (me) screen requiring me to click to complete the log on, I followed the following suggestion: start> control panel> user accounts> change the way users log on or off> uncheck use the welcome screen

All that did was convert the log on to the classic format, still stopping at the admin screen but now the "classic" admin screen requiring a password etc., both when turning on the machine and when coming out of stand-by. I went back and re-checked the welcome screen and followed kegobeer's advice to follow the instructions on this thread: Microsoft's Instructions for Auto Logon to Windows XP

That solved the auto logon when I turned on the machine...It now fully loads without stopping at the admin screen.

But when the sustem goes into standby and I bring it out, it goes to the classic admin screen which wants a password before it will unlock again. I don't use a password so that's not a problem but...I want my old XP admin screen back... :(

    Anyone have any thoughts?

This little option is enjoyably well-hidden.

Get to your power options through the control panel, or by right clicking on the desktop, choosing properties, then click the screen saver tab, and click "power" at the bottom. Click the advanced tab and then you'll find the treasure you seek ;)
