No I mean streaming it directly in VLC using, Media, Stream.

CPU utilization is very low, so this may be a very interesting option, if it works.

Not sure exactly how it works, but I know you need to get the mp4 instead of the flv or whatnot.

    this may get you started:
    http://netsharc.wordpress.com/2007/03/31/youtube-via-vlc/

Sound like it really ends up being no different than downloading the video since you have to wait for it to load completely.

    Also there is this:

I have downloaded HD videos before, you just need to use the HD enabled url so this should work.

So the HD Mp4 for your file according to keepvid.com is this - http://keepvid.com/save-video.mp4?http%3A%2F%2Fv9.lscache8.c.youtube.com%2Fvideoplayback%3Fip%3D0.0.0.0%26sparams%3Did%252Cexpire%252Cip%252Cipbits%252Citag%252Cburst%252Cfactor%26itag%3D18%26ipbits%3D0%26signature%3D0CB7FDE69EBF4E53B65656540F931B467AE4862C.0A673F85C345737EBA919EDFA61D22AA4F7F15A0%26sver%3D3%26expire%3D1248872400%26key%3Dyt1%26factor%3D1.25%26burst%3D40%26id%3D1084ba1be1ef9e45

I think maybe youtube downloader also can give you the link.

Also instead of &fmt=22 try &HD=1

    Update:

Seems like getting the proper 720p video file isntead of the high quality one can be tricky business. Im only getting HQ when I just tried the stuff above. I did more research and have a few methods now. I used the bookmarklet method.

    First a video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-C5ldEFcXA

    Next bookmarklet info

    http://chris.pirillo.com/how-to-download-720p-high-definition-youtube-videos/

http://www.sizlopedia.com/2008/12/20/download-youtube-hd-videos-in-mp4/ <--- This one works! I just tried it and its the only one so far that gave me a 720p file.

and a site that looks better than keep vid

    http://keephd.com/#url_downloader

supposed to do the HD videos but also has the bookmarklet you can just drag to your firefox toolbar/bookmarks

Thanks for the tips. I may get into trying the options when I get an SU3500 laptop.
