    Hey all,

I have been using my new Toshiba M55 for a few weeks now and really like it, but I would like to install XP PRO and set it up the way I like it.
My problem is when I boot from my XP PRO cd it stops after it gets to "starting windows", and if I try running the cd from the desktop a popup says that it will not allow me to install this version of windows becasue my current version is newer.
My copy of XP PRo is SP1. What can I do to install this????
How can I wipe out the HD??
Do I need to make a boot cd, if so how?

    Thanks guys

make sure that you have a bootable cd; and in the lappy, check if it is set to boot to the optical drive or there is a hotkey for toshiba laptops to call the boot device manager if im not mistake its F10 or F12

have you already select cd rom as your preffered drive to boot from in your BIOS? in the secquence cd drive will come before other drives. so, when you switch on your pc with the win xp cd in the cd drive it will boot from there. btw, for this you will also need a "bootable" version of Win XP CD. as english is not my primary language.. i don't know how to explain it better.

yea pretty much you have to have a bootable xp cd. cuz some cds are upgrades only. i'm not sure what kind of computer you have, but for a dell i have to press f12 to go into a boot screen and then chose boot from cdrom. this way it forces to run on the cdrom and then the installation works.

or you can also try with a Windows ME disc and use its minimal boot to go to dos. and if you are good with dos you should be able to delete partitions, create partitions, format, etc.
