I am currently using the preloaded Windows Vista that came with my laptop. I preordered Windows 7 UPGRADE VERSION but how would I do a clean install since it's not the FULL VERSION?

Search, search, search. Like deeastman stated, this has been discussed many, many times on this very board.

Oh no. Microsoft lied and tricked customers into buying the upgrade versions that don't work.

    :rolleyes2:

There is no in-place upgrade path from any of the leaked beta/RC builds.

MSFT has always said (going back to the NT days) that you need to format/partition down to bare metal to install retail releases.

Of course I know it will work. I wouldn't have posted so many times talking about it or linked to an article where Microsoft said it would work, if I didn't think it would work.

Only more recently there's an indication on Thurrott's site that it might not.

The crux is whether this part is true: " The qualifying Windows operating system must have a genuine license (product key) and it must be activated." If installing the upgrade really does require installing onto an activated system that would throw a monkey wrench into the works. Supposedly there is an option in the upgrade to do a "clean install"; it will be interesting to see how clean of a clean install that is.

Thurrott still believes the Vista method will work but can't test to be 100% positive until he obtains a copy of the upgrade media. There's still the statement in the referenced article: "You cannot install an upgrade version of Windows 7 on a blank hard drive." We'll see how true that really is -- there's a lot of really clever people around.

I just hope people realize that moving from a 32-bit OS to 64-bit will require a clean install. At least that's what I've read.
