My current laptop is a Lenovo Amilo Pro. It has a 2GHZ Celeron CPU, 1GB of memory (768mb usable), and a VIA Chrome9 HC IGP.

I am currently running XP and I was wondering how Win7 would run?

    Thanks.

If you could just add some more RAM (2 GB perhaps) it would run fine.

    RAM is very cheap nowadays

Windows 7 runs on my Inspiron 1100, but XP runs a bit better. Your Lenovo would probably be the same.

I totally forgot about the memory sitting in my busted DV2500. I took out 2GB and plugged it in! I tried putting in 3GB but it would hang so I put in the 2GB module along with the old 512MB, so now I have 2250 effective.

I am going to install Win7 and I'll let you guys now... XP is just so old, man.

    Thanks guys.

    It's running great!

I disabled homegroup, search, and backup/restore among a few others just to keep it as lean as possible. I didn't put an AV on it but I don't really need one. I might pop on NIS2010.. we'll see.

I also don't have any gadgets/docks running again to keep things as lean as possible but I just might go for it because she's running like a champ.

One thing is the screen text isn't sharp at all. I messed around with Cleartype a lot but it's always like.... blurry. Sucks. I can live with it though.

You can completely turn off ClearType.

Ya I did that but I actually didn't like it. I messed with it some more and now it's almost perfect.

By messing with it, do you mean you messed with its calibration options? Because aside from that, I can't really think of anything else to try.

Ya I just went through the calibration again and kept on choosing different settings until a combination worked.

I was running xp sp3 on my 2002 Dell Latitude c640 with 1.8ghz, 1gb ram and the worst video card on the planet. Win 7, runs a bit faster than xp sp3 did on that machine. I think it's worth a shot to see how it runs on your system.

That's been my experience, but I reckon that's due the the Win7 being a fresh install whereas the XP one is a couple of years old.

Maybe one day I'll do a comparision between fresh installs.
