Ok, so since I have 2 notebooks at this point, I wanted to get rid of my first one, an Hp Nx9420 , T2300 Core Cuo 1.7 Ghz, 1.5Gb ddr2 rma, 80 Gb HDD, 17 inch screen(matte), your super kewl bussines type laptop.

So I wanted to clean it, and make a set of recovery disks for windows, since for some reason, the blasted recovery partition, while still there untouched, is not working anymore ( F11 on boot does nothing, where it should have done a factory restore, but it just goes to a black screen with a blinking line "_")
I tried making a set of disks for recovery, and the damn thing tells me that a set of recovery disks was already created! Unbelieveble.. the fact is , HP does not want to help me in any way, since the 1 year international warranty is dead :(
I don't want to sell the unit without the XP that came with it, the OS alone is worth over 100 bucks.
Also, the weirdest thing happened... When I go int My computer and double click on a drive, be it C, or D, or any physical drive, instead of entering it, a new window pops up and ask "open with" . Seems that Explorer is screwed somehow. And even if I click on the settings to view Hidden Files, IT DOES NOT SHOW THEM!

    What can I do ?

The reason why you can't access the recovery partition is because you changed the partition table and MBR by either repartitioning it, or reinstalling the OS.

What you can do is search HP site for a repair tool. It'll fix the MBR thne you'll be able to boot it.

My Thinkpad has the same problem but I just said screw it and wiped the recovery partition clean.

I can't do that , because I tried a repair console from an XP cd , and of course, SATA not recognised. Can't load BIOS< I tried all keys, cause I wanted to enable SATA. No luck. What now ?
