Hi guys, i got a lil problem since two days. My pagefile keeps getting set to 14gb when it's "managed by the system" even though there is no reason for it to do so i wonder if there is anything i can do except from setting it manually?
I never had this issue before, that's the first time. I'm on Windows 10 1809 release.

Its a new feature on v1803 and later version when you 3 BSODs consecutively PF is set to RAM size or more. You can set it to a fixed value of 4GB for min and max values. Setting a fixed PF size also gets rid off storage reserve on v1903 if you're planning to upgrade in the future or even forced updated to v1903.hmscott likes this.

Oh so those BSOD caused by my undervolt and Killer wifi adapter caused all this? Lol I tried to reset it and set it back to auto but it keeps reverting to 14gb.
There is no other way to get it back to work on auto as it used to?
EDIT: I did not have 3 consecutive BSODs though. I had them before because of undervolt or Killer wifi adapter but it didn't do this.. -
Put it to fixed value or set date/time values to next year and you'll see PF is set to sane values.

If i use manual values when i reboot the pagefile setting sets itself to zero. What the ****?

You need to Hit apply then OK to reboot the PC. Disable System protection aka system restore.
-
Yeah i forgot that. I have system protection disabled.
I can't understand what's causing the pagefile to get so big though. I can live with it set manually but still looks weird to me. -
System Restore, has nothing to do with this and Reserved Storage has nothing to do with the page file issue either.
For me with 32GB RAM, Page File is at 4864 MB (Auto), my guess is that your page file is either corrupted or some program or memory leak caused page file to grow that large. 14GB is kinda high. Try completely disabling and re-enabling it or leave it set to manual. -
I tried that but as soon i re-enable it (letting the system decide the size) the size will be 2900 MB but as soon i reboot my computer it will be set again to 14gb.
I guess this happened after an unexpected freeze while the system was in standby (it happened two days ago or so) where i had to force a shutdown?
Is there any way to see if the pagefile is corrupted? -
On Win 10 v1903 if a user uses a reg entry to disable Storage reserves Windows 10 compensates that using spaces provided or allocated for System restore and PF. You can check using fsutil storagereserve query or something similar cmd line. If properly disabled, you will see 0MB reserved.
But you can set it to 2900 MB if 4GB is more for you. I use HWINFO to find max PF usage when I opened all apps, games,IDEs and all crap running out of RAM so my peak usage was around 2.1-2.5GB. -
I'm on 1809 though. I have set it to 2900 max and 800 min for the minidumps.
Huge pagefile for no reason on Auto settings
