and all my games run smoothly on it =)

lol, did stromeffects post in anyway inspire you to post this as a seperate thread. Anyway if you are going to creat such a thread dont put it to waste by your first post, put up an argument of xp vs vista or something like stormeffect did.
-
lol, then we'd have a flame-war
-
-
i must agree.. vista is great! No problems at all!
-
i´ll be posting tomorrow my opinion since my lappy comes in today (noon) or tomorrow (morning)
-
I'm another vista fan. I used to say that vista sucked because everyone was hating on it, but now i think it's awesome because i actually tried it out.
-
I thought so for a week, then I reverted to XP due to various problems/annoyances. =\
-
-
Uh-oh, blackbird. Looks like someone started the fundamentalist Vista religion.
Now I feel like a hypocrite. -
-
-
yeah I love Vista my games run really nicely under it.
-
i like vista a lot more than i did xp
-
This is the first thread dedicated to praising Vista that I have ever seen.

I have to say that I love Vista too. I was really worried when I heard other people saying just how buggy the OS is, but after some adjustments Vista runs even better than XP. The new features and interface are awesome.
-
I am very pleased with Vista. I was somewhat adamant as to how much I would like it because of all the negative talk surrounding Vista, but after using it for a few weeks, I like it a lot and wouldn't want to switch back to XP.
-
+1 for Vista. It gets a bad rap, but I've never had any problems with it, and my gaming performance (on my desktop with an x1800xt, at least) was identical to my performance in XP.
-
Vista has, in a sense become Magically better in the last 2 months for me.
-
I've never had any complaints about it, once I got it tweaked to my liking. My only beef has been that I can't get iTunes to work and I have two network programs for school that I can't run (novell client and Cisco's VPN client).
-
I have gotten used to it too- its really not that bad. They seem to tweek it to run smoother and better with every update they come out with. A big difference for me was when I upgraded from 1 gig of memory to 2..
-
where were u people before this thread started? lol
-
we were here, we just didnt want to start a flame war

Eh. My honest opinion of Vista is that it's OK. It does what I want it to do, for the most part. I had nightmares until I turned UAC off, then it let me actually control my own files. There is no way that 'feature' should be advertised as such - it is a veritable handicap.
There's only one issue I can't figure out - MS Office will only work when I log in as the Admin - not under any other login, beit regular user or with admin privileges. So although Vista is going OK for me, it's still annoyingly less able than XP. I would still suggest one should get XP over Vista, but it's not a total disaster. -
I used the pre-release Vista for six months running basic apps, and bought Vista for my new gaming rig. But once I started gaming and actually using the OS extensively, I had to dump it for XP. Too many UI things changed that couldn't be reconfigured, too many issues with games, audio crackles, unexplained slowdowns... all went away instantly when I switched back to XP.

Hmm, odd. I have XP on my desktop and Vista on my laptop. So far, no problems with either at all! However, Vista is at least to me a lot slower than XP... Boot times, even with tweaks from this forum, help but its still slower than XP in my opinion... plus you have to have at least 2 gigs for it even to be smooth!
I'm wondering if I should install XP on my laptop just to see how much faster it could be... But, I also do really like the look of Vista however. Its much cleaner and nicer than XP. The nicest thing though is all the games I play on Vista work with no problems. The only game that I've had a problem with is Dark Crusade..but that was easily fixed by a tweak. -
Pre-2007 games on Vista can be problematic in general. Trying to play much older games can be impossible.
My wife has an Acer Aspire 5100 with Vista pre-installed. I installed XP on it and it boots twice as fast, and programs in general are much more zippy.
If you like Vista, then fine, use it. But IMHO, it just isn't ready for real work, including games. It is being forced down everyone's throats that buy a new PC. Even the base laptops with a Celeron, 512MB RAM, and the GMA 900 are forced to use Vista when you can barely run Vista with those specs, let alone anything else.
If Microsoft let OEM's and end consumer's decide what to offer, I bet Vista would only be on 20% of sold PC's. So many people blow Vista off their PC's right away anyways. -
I like vista
I hate vista
I hate XP
I like XP -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
I just upgraded to 4gigs of ram.. now vista is better than ever!!
I'm happy as well.

There is a threshold, beyond which Vista will actually "WOW" you. If you fall short of it, you'll definately feel like you have stepped onto a long, muddy, unresponsive road. That is precisely why I didn't run out and install Vista on all my old hardware.
Just my POV, to each his own. -
im really liking vista alot too... (well compared to XP anyway) i have yet to experience any problems with it. But, i do still prefer linux over windows (im a linux fanboy
) all i really use it for is gaming, and i used it full time for about a month when i first got it just too see what it was about. but i completely agree with the title of this thread
-
vista is okay. and it seems like it loves eating a lot of gigabytes. i think gigabytes are yummy.
programs work after doing a little bit of snooping around for solutions. school starts tomorrow. i hope it wont bring me down. wont have a lot of time snooping around anymore. -
Have you guys played Oblivion on your Vistas?
-
Having used it extensively myself and setting it up for a parent, the only applications that I have not seen work are an old resume maker software and a print shop that was about $10. Any major game or application will very likely work on Vista.
It was security features that XP doesn't have, and the 64 bit version of Vista nearly flawless for security purposes. The interface is the real crusher though because after using Vista, XP looks like Windows 95. It's hard to roll back to XP now.
The Ultimate extra of dreamscene is really coolPut some subtel backgrounds on there and sometimes it's easy to get lost just looking at it.

i concur with this thread. go team

I am forced to agree. As a user of Vista x64 I must say that this OS has continued to surprise and even impress me. Even though I was one of those people who was at the front line, shouting "Don't upgrade until SP1!", an accident forced me to upgrade sooner than I would have liked, and honestly, I haven't regretted it at all.
For me, Vista has been a very stable, easy to use, and secure OS with excellent compatibility in both software and hardware. Indeed, at the moment I can't think of any real complaints. And its only going to get better when Service Pack 1 does eventually come out. -
Another Vista fan here. It is cool.
Vista came with my laptop, together with those bloatware from factory default installation. So I decided to make a clean install with Anytime Upgrade Disc. I was so frustrated with Vista at that time that I finally decided to switch back to Windows XP Pro. Well, Windows XP ran fine on the laptop, except for blue screens occasionally without an obvious reason. After a while, I decided to try Vista again. So I got Vista installed again. I played around with it for a while. After getting more and more familiar with the interface and functions, I feel more and more comfortable with it. It is not that bad at all, and I like it. -
I love Vista too...
My HP laptop came with XP MCE 2005, installed Vista Home premium in a dual boot configuration and It's running fast, even more than XP. Now I'm thinking how to remove the XP partition, I never boot to XP anymore... Anyone knows a secure and easy way? -
Count me in the Vista fan crowd. I hate having to work on the home PC now since its running XP. I much prefer Vista's UI and the fact it doesn't patronize me with "My" documents and "My" pictures when I hit the start orb. That was always my pet hate with XP - that it made it feel as though it contained all your worldly possessions in its green and blue grasp.
-
I found the UI experience and performance to be very good. However, I've been forced to go back to XP since my laptop hardware has stability and compatibility issues with Vista. Now I'm already missing the eye candy.
Overall, Vista is a very good experience (if your computer was originally supported for it). -
I gave Vista a go twice for a week.
I prefer XP.
-less menu latency
-i prefer the minimalistic look
-xp looks better on my external monitor
-better 3d performance.
there's nothing that Vista lets me do that I'm not able to do in XP.
I do like the better security in Vista, I've set my XP up the same way. -
-
I haven't used Vista on my home PC, because I can't afford to.
I've used it quite a lot at work, and from what I've experienced the format/install process is much nicer than the XP system.
I've become somewhat of a format-aholic on my home computer (which I know is bad for the drive, but I like a clean slate... a lot), so the slighty more streamlined system Vista offers is very appealing.
I was firmly against Vista up until recently, when some major patches started coming out (fixing things like the file transfer bug etc.)
When all the drivers are in order and working Vista is a dream to use, especially with all the eyecandy Aero glass effects. Having 2GB of ram (or more) is essential for really enjoying Vista, I know it will run just fine at 1GB but not as nicely as XP would at 1GB.
Thats my only real gripe with Vista, the memory hogging, it all goes to a good cause with the prefetching and such, but to be effective 2GB is IMO ideal.
When I finally save up enough to buy my laptop for uni, I will definitely be getting Vista to go with it. -
I just got a new Dell Inspiron 1420 and does anyone know any tips and tweaks to improve performance?
-
I side with XP PRO on this one.
G1 came loaded with Vista, loved the interface reminded me of OS X which I also enjoy.
Main problem was even after removal of bloatware my system would hang for long periods of time or need a force restart.
To be honest I admit I didn't really have the patience to go any further. XP has been a dream, games run a little faster and it's nice and stable.
Since my G1 was the 1st series with the direct x 9 video card, I gain nothing from DX 10 support. So this machine will be XP until it dies. Next system will be one of those sleek Macbook Pro's I drool over daily -
I love Vista too, but not the 64bit versions.
I Love Vista!!
