I am officially happy with windows 7. It happened last night when I decided to go through my collection of old games to run on my aging core duo 1.6 with 2gb ram and intel 945 chipset. Basically, its a entry level everex sa2052t.
Well, I was bored and I wanted to install a decent game and play networked with my room mates. I found C&C Generals and installed it on Vista. It went perfect, the installation had no problem. I set the compatibility to Windows XP SP2 in Vista and launched the Game. It seemed to work, saw the intro video, and I thought I was happy until the screen went blank on me. No menu screen for the game to be seen anywhere!
I googled "C&C Generals Vista Compatibility," came up with similar issues people were faceing with Vista and intel 945 chipset. At this Time I almost gave up. I restarted my laptop into my Windows 7 partition, found the installed directory of C&C Generals, and launched the game. I didn't set the compatibility or any thing else and just launched. The game went through the usual intro video and loading, but than it finally showed the game menu!! It worked in Windows 7 but not Vista!! We finally ended up playing C&C Generals.
We were happy.
