Wow, I haven't posted at NBR in a while, well anyway...I have some webspace that I've used for misc things over the years and now all of a sudden I find myself in need of a forum (just started a paintball team and need a place were we can discuss stuff). I'm not entirely sure how to do this but I know there is free stuff out there that can aid me in this, can anyone point me in the right direction? Google has not been my friend today, it couldn't get me headed the right way.

vBulletin costs money. I believe its fairly expensive.
phpBB is one example of a free open-source bulletin software package. -
Thats what its called! A friend told me about that a while back and I couldn't remember the name, haha, I was trying to search for "phpforumb" and "phpbforum" and stuff like that. Thanks, now I just gotta figure out how to set the darned thing up (if wouldn't mind keeping an eye in here, I might need a hand).

Yeah, sure, its no problem. Good luck.

vBulletin, for its cost, provides few useful features to most users. Only big membership sites will see its advantages.
phpBB is used everywhere these days and as a result there are many many helpful tutorials and tools available to help get you started. I've used it and despite some quirks it is a great system that I would have no trouble recommending to everyone. -
Crap...this webspace I have I got free from a friend (mostly because he could never use all of it) and I don't have all the information to complete this. I don't think he would appreciate a call at 12 at night asking "what is the Database Server Hostname". I'll finish this tomorrow. Thanks.

I used invisionfree and i had my forum up and running in less then 3 hours. Had it for over a year now with no problems.
PLUG, If anyone has Oscars (the fish) check it out. www.theoscartank.com I have no shame,LOL -
Make sure your webspace has hosting capacities (SQL DB, php support, etc) for phphbb. The database information is relavent in that sense.

The database server is almost always localhost...
Also phpBB sucks. It's buggy, gets hacked all the time, and is just not very flexible.
A forum I'm on upgraded from phpBB to SMF a few months ago, and we haven't looked back. It's so much cleaner, offers more features, and it hasn't been hacked so far. Oh, and it's still free.
I have a webspace, and I want to make a forum...
