Downloading PCMarkVantage for Vista because I realized I was stupid (thanks to the fine folks on this board) and that's why PCMark05 wouldn't work on my Vista based Laptop...................................
So what happens???? This &T%^&^$^^*T^()^&$^#^*%^_)_)_)#$*@# program won't work either...............EXACT SAME ERROR...........it won't even install.
I have UAC turned off and no password. I have also tried running as administrator............
I am SICK of Vista, 64 bit specifically................I'm ready to throw this entire computer out in the parkinglot and let a HMMWV run it over. I sincerely hope that Bill Gates goes bankrupt and Microsoft closes its doors forever for pushing GARBAGE like this out the door.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work?????
-
I don't know much about it but I would just like to say relax a little bit. A computer should be something to enjoy, not something to get frustrated over. I would take a step away for a couple of hours and check back to see if anyone has some advice for you to get it to work. I just got this laptop and haven't done any marks yet so I will try to get one to run and write a step by step guide of what I did to make it work on 64 bit and hopefully it will help out.
-
Relaxing is not in my nature.
Seriously, downloading a 665MB file on a connection that averages 45kb per second is enough to give even the Pope an attitude when crap doesn't work. lol
It just seems like every single thing you try and do with Vista 64 turns into a freaking day long project............it took darn near a month just to get the software installed because of the whole "no HD found" garbage that comes with Vista installs. -

Did you install the patch?
-
Uhhh........Patch?
No, no patch installed............I just payed Futuremark $19.95 for the right to download, install and use the program from their website. Guess I'll go look for a patch and another 5 hours of downloading. Thanks.
Hold on a second, how am I going to install a patch if the program won't install first so it can be patched? -
Downloading 16.8 gigs averaging 5 KB/s is worse, so be thankful.
Do you have a RAID setup? -
-
-
not sure, but have you installed SP1 yet?
-
Yeah, it's installed. It allows me to run the "Hotfix" setup program and goes through some installation processes, but it will not allow me to run the actual program installation that I downloaded........the 665mb file, instead it continues to give me the "this program has stopped working" error message. I can run the hotfix over and over but all it does after the first time is ask me if I want to modify, repair or uninstall the program. When I check in my program files, the only Futuremark program I see in there is 3dMark. -
again, not sure....
are you right clicking on the file, running as admin... -
Yeah, tried that too............I'm tellin' you, I'm not the most computer smart person in the world, but I've learned a ton on this board in the last couple of months..............and nothing that I've seen on here has worked...........99% of what works for everyone else just won't work on this laptop. I am definitely dumping this 64bit OS and going back to 32bit as soon as my new hard drive arrives. And I'm going to think bad thoughts about Billy G and his band of misfits in Redmond the whole time while I wait. haha

Maybe it's where you are getting the file that is causing the installation issue.
I normally go to Guru3D for my benchmark downloads. Link
Try this:
- Try to uninstall whatever you have currently (app and patch).
- Install CCleaner.
- Go into Safe Mode (press F8 on before your boot screen) and run both the file cleaner and the registry cleaner.
- Restart and re-download the file through the website I listed.
- Don't forget to install the patch afterwords.
- If it still does not work, make sure your DirectX is updated.
-
So... you watched it the whole time while it was downloading, didn't you?
-
Theres windows pre-requisite software to run those benchmarks. I know PCmark05 required windows encoder 9, visual basic etc. You might be missing some of these components
-
I didn't stare at the down load status box the entire time as I was working, but yes, I was here the entire time and it never timed out or stopped tranferring for any length of time.
I got the file from Guru, that's where I downloaded it from anyway.
Fipfire.......that's entirely possible as I'm running from a clean install of Windows Vista Home Premium X64. I haven't installed any other programs aside from games, 3dMark06 (which sometimes gives the same error when I start it but if I keep trying it eventually works) and a messenger program. -
5 hours
.. I thought my 7 seconds was too long
-
-
If it were only one instance of one program from one manufacturer failing to work I would probably be a bit less harsh in my assessment...........since it's not.....................
x64, when installed by the OEM might run fantastic, but when your average Joe, such as myself, attempts to do anything with it odds are it's going to turn into a headache. There are plenty of threads on this very board that illustrate that fact quite clearly, in fact at any given time there are 2 or more ongoing threads about how Vista won't recognize hard drives when you attempt an install........the OS is not user friendly until AFTER it's been installed and debugged with however many "updates" Microsoft sees fit to push out for it. -
I had no problem installing 3DMark06 on 64bit, and I never downloaded anything extra. Honestly, this sounds like a strange issue...

Couldn't resist. Seriously though, try out Linux Mint or Ubuntu sometime on a LiveCD (head over to the Linux forum for guidance), and see what you think.
I just spent FIVE Hours............
