miranda is a multi protocol im client.. (aim, msn, icq, yahoo, gtalk)
it uses a lot less space, resources, taks 2 seconds to startup, and has no adds.

I just made everything really small and put it always on top, and its almoast like a vista gadget, and I can fit around 30 online contacts with 3 gadgets above it.. :) ... just, fill in your contacts(aim/icq on startup, others in options), disable unused protocols(options>plugins>uncheck unused>restart), drag it to the sidebar and resize to your needs.. :)
when you have everything filled in, change the global status to online either throu settings or ctrl+1..... happy chatting
