Ok Im not sur this goes here but

I have a folder on my desktop that used to work fine. The folder i made was titled games and it had all of my game shortcuts in it. I recently installed rocketdock and put shortcuts to all my games and programs in the dock. Then I hid all my desktop icons. Today I tried to delete the folder but when I do I get this error code: "0x80070091: The directory is not empty" and when i try to open the folder I get Games is not accesible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. I have an Asus g50vt a1.
My other 2 folders on my desktop work fine....

    can someone help me pls?

If XP start > run > CMD
if Vista start orb > type CMD > right click on CMD at the top and choose "run as administrator"

in CMD, type "chkdsk /r C:" with no quotes.
it will tell you it cannot run chkdsk because the volume is mounted (duh, it's the OS drive) and would you like to run on the next boot?
hit Y, enter, then restart your computer. Let it run the check disk. It will make corrections and either delete that folder, or allow you to delete it.

Try going into safe mode at bootup, and running "chkdsk /f" (without the quotation marks).

FYI chkdsk /r will recover any damaged files to %driveroot%\found.000 and will imply /f. /f will just delete damaged files which can be a problem.

If that does not work, you can try Simple File Shredder, and shred the file.

Did you get a confirmation that a chkdsk has been scheduled for the next boot?
When you rebooted, it should have started a chkdsk... you didn't cancel it by accident, did you? It will give you a countdown timer and if you press any key in that time, it will stop the chkdsk.

    ok after i hit

    "Y"

I just hit the restart button.

the computer restarts it asks me to log in.

    I login

Then it loads up all my programs and thats it.

when is the chkdsk supposed to start? before or after I login?

After you hit "Y" you need to hit "Enter" just in case you didn't.
The command screen should then close. Now restart your computer.

Chkdsk runs on boot, before your login screen.

Yeah, it sounds to me like you're missing this integral part of the process. After hitting Y it's pretty important to hit enter.
When you hit enter it will progress a line and say something about a chkdsk being scheduled for the next boot.

Ok ill describe exactly what i do and what happens

    I type in chkdsk /r C:

it says all this stuff Y or N

    I hit Y and enter

the commend prompt stays open it doesn't close

it says it will run chkdsk when i restart

    I restart.

    computer shutdown

    Republic of gamer logo apears

black screen with a little _ in the top left corner

    windows loads up

another black screen same as the one before.

    asks me too login

i login and im back where i started...

Is there anyway to get the command prompt up when im starting up normally before i boot up vista?
so i can chkdsk right after i type it in?

You chkdsk procedure appears correct so unless that fancy motherboard bios is preventing you from running chkdsk I'm stumped.

Yes to your question above. If you have a Vista OS or XP OS disk you can boot to it and work your way through the menus to repair the OS which will eventually lead you to a Command Prompt where you can run Chkdsk /R.

If you don't have a Vista Disk follow this link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4394641&postcount=7
You can download the ISO and create a Windows XP Recovery Console disk (I know you have Vista, but this disk will do what you want) which you can use to run Chkdsk /r. Just boot your PC with the disk in the CD/DVD drive. Remember you create an disk with the ISO not just burn the file to the disk. If you don't know how to do this, ask.

hmmmm this solution sounds time consuming....

i have googled the exact error code
    0x80070091

and most people that had this error could only fix it by reinstalling vista or whiping their hard drives completely....
when they did a chkdsk it said they couldnt delete the corrupted file becuase it was a read only.

In a couple of cases the computer just fixed itself.
so Im not going to worry about it until i really need to.
there were only shortcuts in that folder

and i dont even use my desktop icons anyway, I hide them and use rocketdock so

thanks for all your help anyway

btw though when i start up I hit space and it brings me to this screen with all these options
safe mode, boot up windows regularly, ect ect. and one of the options is safe mode with command prompt

if i click this then type it in will it do a chkdsk right then and there?

I had a problem with my system the other day and I tried running Chkdsk /r or /f from safe mode and it still wanted me to restart my computer before running the command. You could give it a try.

You also could just try deleting the folder from safe mode, might work.

Actually booting to a OS disk and running chkdsk /r from there or even creating the disk is not much work. Anything else I would suggest to delete the folder would require downloading some software to unlock the folder which would also seem to be quite a bit of work. Good Luck!

Here is an alternate method of running the disk check if you want to give it a try.

Click on the Start Orb>Left Click on Computer
Right click on Local Disk C:
    Click on Tools>Error-checking>Check Now
    Tick both Check Disk Options
    (Automatically fix file system Errors)
(Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors)
    Click on Start

It should bring up a window to Schedule disk Check, click on that.
It will try to run the disk check on next boot. This is an alternate of running
    the same Chkdsk command.

Also one last thought. With Vista you may have run the Chkdsk /r command from a Command Prompt that was initiated with "Run as Administrator".

If so, when you Click on the Start Orb, type CMD in the "Start Search" box.
You should see cmd.exe appear at the top of the list. Right click on the command and Click run as Administrator. Issue the same Chkdsk /R commands you issued in the previous posts at the command prompt.

If it's a corrupted file or folder you will not be able to delete it, even with rmdir/s/f until it has been checked.

This error might be out of Unlocker's league since it could corrupted, but hey its worth a shot -- better than reinstalling windows anyway. :D
