Ok so I was trying to install dell quickset which doesn't work no matter what I do since I upgraded to 8gb or ram and installed a ssd. The main problem is I don't have the pagefile turned on so windows won't boot and safe mode boots but only has 240MB of ram and it so full you can't run anything.

Can somebody please up, I have no system restore points. All I need to do is undo the max memory setting. Tried last known config, running msconfig in safe mode, bcdedit.

michaeljean, are you running win 7? if so it should boot w/o page file. Have you tried going into the BIOS to check if you settings are correct?
If this does not help, try removing ram one stick at a time and boot to isolate a possible bad stick of memory.

Yeah I am running windows 7, the bios shows 8gb, I set the max memory to 2 mb in msconfig advanced boot options. Tried removing a stick still no boot.

Sorry I misunderstood the original question. I see in MS config where it can be set now. Do you have a recent full image of your computer that you can restore with ?
If not the only other thing I can think of is to boot with a linux CD and edit the registry setting from 2 to 8192, assuming this is a registry setting.

No doesn't have enough memory to run in safe mode, the most I can access is repair your computer and a command prompt.

What I am doing so far is booting up the computer, holding f8, repair computer, command prompt, E:, bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 2048.

It takes the command but still no boot
