    Hi guys,

So, I'm kind of a noob in regards to networking/wireless, but I believe my I believe my problem is pretty simple.

Here's the deal: I just got a new Sager np2096 and it came with no operating system. I put windows Xp on it. Now, I have tried to install all the drivers, but only one failed, the Wireless Lan driver. I don't know what to do. When I click install it downloads a small executable called "autorun" which once opened does nothing.

I have no wireless icon in the bottom right corner of my task bar. I just want to be able to go on the internet wirelessly god intended :p

Please help, much thanks in advance.

Are you sure your using the proper driver? Also is the driver just one executable or is it a folder with a bunch of files? If it's a folder then you don't even need to run the executable. You can simply install it via the device manager by finding the uninstalled device listed, click 'update driver', and point to the driver folder.

If that doesn't help, what laptop do you have?

The driver I was downloading was on the driver's disk that came with the computer. Its a Sager np2096 (JHL90). When I click install on the wireless lan driver it just downloads a small exe. file that when run, does nothing.

After running the exe does it prompt you that it's extracting files to a folder? If so that's the folder I was referring to when saying to do it via the device manager.

If the "Found new hardware..." wizard isn't popping up, then you've got something installed as a "driver" for the wireless card, or else the wireless card isn't working at all.

In the device manager, do you see anything that corresponds to the wireless adapter/card?

After going into the device manager I have resolved the problem. Basically, for whatever reason I couldn't install the driver off the disk by just going straight to it. But, when I used the device manager to search the disk it located the file and it worked. I still have no idea what the exe. thing was doing, when I clicked it nothing opened or happened. But, all I know is everything works now, so thanks everyone for the pointers =]

It was probably a self extracting zip file - copying the driver to your HD
