In Vista Ultimate 64bit how can I create or modify an existing
folder so as to make it all but impossible to delete. I have found
directions on how to delete folders that defy the normal method
but I am looking to create one and possibly, add sub folders that
I would like to share that same delete protection.

Just make a folder read only in NTFS permission.
-
I thought of that but I download into this folder.
It is my active download location and Vista deleted
it, I am left to assume I did it by accident. I want to
remove the risk of this happening again. I had all seven
seasons of 24 in that folder. -
You could try following this guide. http://www.technospot.net/blogs/how-to-create-a-system-folder-in-my-computer/

Thanks for posting...
I saw that and tried but it lost me somewhere the 4th bullet
of Step 3. It wasn't written well so following it past that point wasn't
worth the risk of screwing up my system. -
Pardon me asking, but how hard is it not to delete a folder you want? I mean it even prompts you to make sure if you want to delete it...
-
That's a pretty hardcore method of making something delete proof.
I depend on the good ol' recycling bin and it's 50GB of buffer. -
Not hard at all, of course that is why it is called an accident.
I am sure anything else classified as an accident which was not intentional or desired could have been easily avoided but as the proverb says, *hit happens.
I don't know what happened, I deleted a sub folder from the parent folder I want protected and the next thing I noticed, I was outside of the parent folder. I then looked for the parent folder and it is gone, I tried a search of the entire system including all the external TB drives, it is just gone. The subordinate folder I deleted was in the recycle bin but not the parent folder. -
Be grateful. It did you a favor.

I had something similiar happen while I was working on a network share. I deleted a folder and it was still showing on the network. Thinking I never deleted it, a few seconds later, I hit the delete again. Turns out the folder was deleted and it didn't refresh fast enough before I hit delete again. The second delete when after the whole parent folder. Luckily, I restored the folder from a shadow copy.
-
Have you tired using shadow copy to recover it? If you did it recently its probably all still there.
-
I don't make or use "shadow copies".
I do generate Acronis backups but have not done so since the contents
of the lost folder were created.
I just ripped all 7 seasons again...a pain in the arse but I copied it
to the TB drive straight away having learned from this experience.
I want to make a folder so it cannot be deleted
