Alright I don't know if I should post this in the software forum or here.

    Neways...

Today my HEL80 keeps starting Limewire. It comes up at startup, which I told limewire NOT to do. Then when I completely close Limewire, it reopens by itself. I would close it, walk away, come back, and it would be open again.

I guess i'll try reinstalling it when I get home.

I also have heard of numerous problems arise after a limewire install. Have you tried going to msconfig and see what starts up with the system?

Yeah of course. That was the first thing I did. Limewire wasn't even listed. Then I went to the options in the actual program and the Start during Startup was disabled. I dont think I ever had this problem before on any other computer. I don't know what is making it open without me touching it.

Hmm I would try hijackthis! ... Maybe it hooks into another program? =S

Or better yet, uninstall Limewire and get Frostwire.

I once had a virus that did that to limewire. Maybe you could try running a virus scan...

Maybe just uninstall it and reinstall it with a new or older version see if you have the same problem?

I have seen this problem a long time ago, with another program.

The symptoms were, whenever a person was downloading a file from you, it would cause ur program (limewire) to open and let the other person take it from you.

However, I've not seen anyone report this problem ever since. I suggest just remove it, and then scan for viruses and spyware, since Limeware mostlikely has it. Then if you still want to use Limewire then install it and then scan your laptop again.

If the problem persists, consider to have ur desktop do a the downloading and then transfer it to your laptop.

My guess is that it opens every time someone is trying to share one of your files. If they're trying to d/l a file you are sharing then of course the program needs to be open to allow that. That's what happens when you use things like Limewire... just part of it. You give and you take. My suggestion would be to set your files not to share and see if that helps. If you already have that, my guess would be a spyware problem.

I agree that it is malware probably restarting LimeWire so it can propogate itself by sharing. You could try to remove it, but obviously your AV has not picked up anything, so if it was there it would likely not be able to remove it. It may be a good idea to backup your data and reinstall, it is the only way to be sure you fully cleaned out the malware. Although, you may not have been compromised, but evidence does seem to point in that direction. Try going to TrendMicro and using HouseCall to scan your system see if anything pops up there.

BTW, this is a good reason not to file share.
