Thank you, I'm downloading it right now.

I see that it is on the top of the list in 5 recommended free virus softwares in here: Best Free Antivirus Software

Are the other four worth a look or try?

Also do these free viruses catch existing viruses too not just viruses you are about to install?

We have had many, many, many polls on NBR on which is the best free anti-virus and Avast Free is awyas top, also if you have an android phone, it`s top for android as well and free again, just have a search but you are wasting your time.

I myself use Kaspersky 2013 i got free from Barclays with my current account, online banking and i would say it`s the best paid anti-virus and i get the next version free every year and i have been doing this for years, it`s a bit heavy on the cpu when scanning, so it`s not for netbooks or low powered notebooks, I use Avast then.

i used to use avg pro for 2 years and have now been on avast pro for 2 years and its been the best so far. ive also tried microsoft security essentials which was ok but out of the 3 im sticking to avast. i will be renewing early next year for another 2 years.

word of warning, never have more than one antivirus loaded on you coputer at the same time as they will conflict.

also make sure your windows firewall is switched on as free antivirus doesnt have a firewall its only the paid versions that do.

Micro$oft Security Essential and Malwarebytes free version is also often suggested for Windows based machines (saw the Apple in your Sig). That is the combo I use and have been "saved" more than once.
Yes all the programs John and I mentioned will catch existing viruses, after installation of any of the programs update them and run full scans in safe mode to be sure you are "clean".
