    1) Limewire isn't communicating with my network. I have tried McAfee's firewall at Standard and Trusting, and have granted Limewire full access to my network, but it just won't work. And worst of all, which each connection attempt, it keeps taking my internet connection out with it, forcing me to restart my computer....

    2) I can't WMP to install into Firefox as a plug-in. I've tried an app called WGAPluginInstall.exe which I got from MS' WMP page, but nothing doing

Any ideas? I'm tired. It's been a LONG day....

    :(

until things get better with vista et al:
. recommending removing mcAfee and use Avast instead as AV protection
. leave vista firewall and defender to protect ur system against mal/spyware
    . turn off uac ( http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/...le-user-account-control-uac-in-windows-vista/)

regarding WMP as default opening video/stream within FF, there is no issue that i m aware of

limewire - u can try to set the running.app as XP compatible mode and see if it is improving

some pics or error messages would help in analyzing the problems

    cheers ...

I'll try and narrow things down for you...

My router firewall isn't the problem, because Limewire works fine on my old computer, even when I had Norton on it, and granted Limewire access through the wall. The Windows firewall isn't the problem, because I haven't turned it on. So clearly, it's McAfee. I have it set to Standard protection, with Limewire grated full access and smart recommendations enabled.

There aren't any error messages as such. All that happens is that I load Limewire, and I get a message that basically says internet connection cannot be established, or firewall blocking access, hence why Limewire will not work. It can't be the first one, because I'm on the internet now... But here's the funny thing. I've just restarted my laptop (again!). If I try and load up Limewire right now...it will totally obliterate my connection, and I'll have to restart the laptop to connect to the net again. Wierd.

As for WMP plug-in, I've tried an auto-download from Firefox, but it just says "no suitable plug-ins found, Unknown Plugin (application/x-mplayer2)". If I elect to search for the missing plug-in manually, and follow the links, still it doesn't work. I've done a verification check and all, and still nothing...

Argh! There's so much about Vista that I like. But then, there's so much that is annoying me right now also....

I would uninstall McAfee, but I'm worried about viruses on my brand new Vista OS. Thing is, on my old laptop, I ran NO anti-virus software. Just used FF, and had no problems... But I'm too nervous to do that with Vista just yet!

Okay, first thing. DO NOT TURN OFF UAC!

If you are worried about malware and viruses, turning off UAC is silly.
It is UAC that prevents the viruses and malware from working their evil will (prevents them from executing).
