How do I restore it to the original settings...reinstall the recovery disk that came with the notebook from the manufacturer? I only bought it six weeks ago, so everything is relatively current. I did buy and install some security software and Microsoft Office 2003, and I noted that in the ad. Is there a way to preserve those two programs if I use the recovery disk, or will everything not on the disk be wiped out? I no longer have the software to reinstall those programs.

    Thanks.

When you run recovery programs, it does wipe out everything (including the personal information that you really do want removed from the notebook). It would probably be better to lose the software in the package than to leave potentially useable information about you on the machine.

How did you lose the install disks that you used merely six weeks ago...? They have to be somewhere...I always lose things until I don't need them anymore.

What did you do with the security software and Office 2003? Did you sell the CDs independent of the notebook?

I shouldn't say that I lost the disks. I've actually used up the three installations allowed by each of those programs. I think I will go ahead and run the recovery disk, and then pay for and download those programs again. Thanks for the replies.

You should be allowed to install the software again because you are talking about one and the same computer, if I understand you correctly. It would be different if you had the software installed on three other machines.

Office 2003 should be fine. Security software with a license like that, go elsewhere. I wouldn't do business with a company that screws over their customers like that. What software was it? I want to make sure I don't ever recommend someone get it.

Even then. With Office 2003 I have heard from people that it allows simultaneous installs on both a Desktop and a Laptop within the same household from the same install key.
