What do you mean by lag? Is it network related or is your game stuttering a lot (skipping frames etc.)?

If it is stuttering, then try to check the task manager and find out whats hogging all the resources.

Go to your Harddrive manufacturer's website and download a diagnosis utility and run it.

I've heard of problems like it all the time, if it's not a software problem(usually fixed by a fresh install) then the harddrive is on the way out. Scan the drive and see if the health is ok. Also do you notice any unusual noises? Such as when you lag does it click like crazy?

you can also try running some diagnostic tools.

i recommend the online diagnostic site, www.pcpitstop.com, for a quick check.
