Stupid thing to do as now It has neraly filled up my hard drive almost doubling what I had on the disk. The reason almost half of your hard drive was taken by the back up is that IBM Rapid Restore Ultra created a backup partition set by default at 40% of hard drive capacity. You have to uninstall the application (IBM Rapid Restore Ultra) in order to easily delete the backups and regain that hard drive space. Do so from the Add/Remove Programs function in Windows.

IBM (now Lenovo) has made significant improvements to their backup and recovery tool. The latest version, Rescue and Recovery 3.0, is freely available from lenovo.com and works very well. The hard drive is no longer partitioned for local backups. You also have the option to backup to a USB device instead.
