Whenever I try to start the windows firewall or the Internet Connection Sharing services, I get an error saying that they cannot start because they cannot start their dependencies. I've been looking into this and it appears to be an error with a service called Base Filtering Engine.

Whenever I try to start the Base Filtering Engine service, I get the following error:

" Windows could not start the Base Filtering Engine service on local computer.

Error 15100: The resource loader file failed to find the MUI file."

I have this service configured to automatically start up when Windows boots up. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell XPS M1530. One post I read led me to believe that security software can cause this issue. In case that is so, I have the latest version of McAfee. How can I solve this problem?

If you have McAfee, it includes a two way firewall that works better than the one way firewall provided with Windows. Who knows, maybe McAfee is turning off the service due to its firewall being active?

As for ICS, i'm not really sure since I use a wireless router to handle the multiple connections.

    Good Luck :)

I only mention Windows Firewall as a symptom. It's what confirmed to me what the cause of the problem was. I have a router so I prefer to connect my Xbox (which is what I'm trying to connect with ICS) directly to my router with an either net cable, but I'd like to have a wireless option in case I want to move it around my house without playing $100 for the wireless adapter.
