i'm using an IDE to USB cable to plug a hard drive to the computer using USB.
when i plugged in, windows says it's installing driver software but it ends up that the hard disk cannot be installed due to no driver available.

are there any drivers available for this as i never got any drivers for the cable... and under device manager i can't seem to see the "exclamation sign" besides any of the USB ports indicating the hard disk that was not installed.

i'm running windows 7 by the way.
    please help, thanks

I don't have a IDE to USB cable but I do believe that the IDE drive has to be jumpered as master for it to work, I would check.

You didn't provide much info. I would check with on the manufacture site for a manual or product information. I don't think a driver is required.

No driver is necessary. Check the jumpers. I assume it's a working HD, so there is no need to plug it into another computer to make sure?

i've tried the jumpers either on master or slave and both doesn't work...
the hard disk is a working one that wanted to switch into usb.

when i plug in the usb on the computer, i hear the "plugged" sound from windows that something has just been plugged. but then a few seconds later, the "unplugged" sound plays even though i didn't unplugged the drive...

it shows up as usb mass storage for a few seconds and then dissapears, same as the windows sound about the device being plugged and unplugged.

What you are experiencing is typical behavior where the USB port is not capable of supplying enough power to the device on its own.

    1. Try another (all) USB port on your PC (some have higher current output). If this is a desktop PC try a rear panel USB instead of a front panel USB. You can tell how much power the USB port has looking at the properties for the USB port in Device Manager.
    2. Try an external power supply to power the USB drive

That happens on my adapter if I don't give it a few seconds of power-on before attaching the USB cable. Assuming this is an adapter with two separate cables for you to connect (one molex and one USB), be sure you have the molex connected and powered on before plugging in the USB cable.
