They both still suck - I'm still using Netscape 9, even though the s at AOL discontinued support for it. Commie Pinko's....

Woah, I forgot about NetScape. I haven't heard that name in ages. It used to be installed on all of my Elementary school computers.

I just got IE 8 a few days back ? LOL and I honestly noticed 0 differences that are actually useful from IE7 to IE8. But oh well, I am a huge IE and only IE fan so I always switch to the latest IE version

I still have IE 6 on my desktop. xD The only reason I now have IE 8 on my laptop is because I accidentally installed it from Windows Update. xD

    FireFox FTW.

We'll definetly see them within a couple years.

AMD should release 6 core soon within a couple of month and 12 cores CPU next year.

In any case, they already released IE 8, so now they're planning and preparing for IE 9. It makes sense to not have downtime between producing different versions.

and you should, as it is a component that other apps can use, and will. and there, you want the security enhancements of ie8 compared to ie6 or ie7. update the stuff that you don't need normally. it means a smaller attack vector on your whole system in moments you don't even notice.

i don't use ie myself at all, i still have the latest version. i think steam uses the ie engine f.e.. other apps do so, too.

I just upgraded my brothers Vaio SR to 4GB and IE8 is FAST (he has a P8400 processor and Home Premium 64-bit). IE8 is not too bad, at least on fast computers.

That's right. All multithreaded browser should be fast with a multicore computer when browsing the web with multiple tabs open at the same time. That's where firefox fails. But for normal 1tab web browsing, the speed difference is minimal.

and still, the web is the limit. as long as the web is slow, no ultrafast browser, superquadcore, speedyssd and what ever can help :)

Does anyone who knows that there is more than one browser in existance honestly browse with single tabs anymore? I generally have 3-4 tabs open for things I am going to need in a few days and then run 3-10+ more tabs for actual browsing.

one question is: how many tabs do you need AT ONCE? answer: one, as you can never see more than one tab (that's why they're only tabs and not full windows).

the resting tabs are background and thus need (close to) no processing power normally. while the multiprocessing is great from a security perspective, and a semi-automatic memory-leak-handler, it is not really that much needed for performance gains (while there are, of course..).

That's probably true 8-10 years ago. Nowdays...even some basic website have flash and scripts. Even if you switch to another tab, the "closed" tab will still be running in the background and can consume quite a bit of system resource if you have many of them open at once.

E.g having 5 youtube tabs open at once, each tab will consume about 5% of my total cpu power (intel atom) whether the tab is active or not.

You do know that Netscape 9 is essentially a skinned version of Firefox 2 (maybe 3, I forgot), right?
Netscape used to be the innovator, then it got crushed by IE, then it got resurrected using the Firefox code base (which is somewhat based on the old Netscape code).

This article isn't really saying too much; in the world of software, they're always working on the next new thing. Still, a good thing that MS is getting wide feedback from its users.
