Hi there mates, I hope someone can help me with this issue i'm having all of a sudden. Randomly while browsing the Internet with either browser suddenly it will just close/disappear. (I can just open IE for example and leave it there and within 10 - 15 minutes of it just idling it just disappears) When I go to re-open the Browser I get the prompt telling me that the window closed unexpectedly and I have the option to restore the tabs.

This is happening on either browser; the same exact thing is happening with IE and Firefox. I had IE8 upgraded to Beta 9 and still have the issue. It's very random and I don't see any related errors in Event Viewer. I have a feeling that it might be a compatibility issue because it seems the 64Bit version of IE works fine but the 32Bit version of IE and Firefox has the problem.

I also believe that either Java or more so Adobe Flash has something to do with it as well; but as you know there are no 64Bit versions of those. If there were I would've just used the 64Bit version of IE but I need Adobe Flash.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling both Java and Adobe Flash to the latest versions available to no avail. I've reset IE settings to defaults as well. I've also scanned for Viruses using Avira, which found nothing; got rid of that and installed MSE which didn't find anything in relation to a possible cause; also ran MalwareBytes and CCleaner for good measure. Even tried doing a Repair Install of the OS.

This is happening on my notebook in Sig. Any help with this would be much appreciated; Reps for any solutions.

Edit: Forgot to mention; I noticed that uTorrent (another 32Bit program) seemed to be having the same problem as well, where after some time of having it opened (say 15mins.) it would just disappear when I hover the mouse cursor over it in the task tray. Since uninstalling and reinstalling the problem have seemed to cease.

So i've been trying to find a solution to this sudden issue, but no joy. As mentioned before it seems the 64Bit version of IE doesn't suffer from this issue but I can't use IE 64Bit for a couple reasons...Main reason being some sites such as nba.com which I watch live League Pass Online games on requires Adobe Flash; And there's no 64Bit Adobe Flash available yet. Also IE 64Bit appears to run much slower than the 32Bit version; it tends to hang/freeze quite alot as well while browsing etc.

At this point I simply refuse to re-install the OS because I can't afford to re-install all my programs...to tedious of a job. And i'm kicking myself in the butt for not having a backup image to restore to.

For now, I'm just gonna wait for Adobe 'Square' to launch and see how that goes.

Is there anything in the logs that might give you a clue?

Nah, as mentioned in my first post, Event Viewer didn't yield any clues at all.

I would try disabling both Flash and Java, just to confirm that these programs are causing the crashes. Otherwise, we are simply making assumptions without verification.

Yea...I forgot to mention. IE will still close even with all add-ons disabled.

Java is a "pain in the whatever" on 64 bit OS. So, if you can afford that, I'd get rid of it.
Flash works fine here, but I have only the Mozilla plugin installed, not the ActiveX for IE. FF is 32bit, and so is Opera.

Does it also close when Flash/Java are disabled?

Yep, just did a test with IE. Manually checked that the add-ons were disabled. Selected 'All Add-ons' and disabled all of them including all the java applets/adobe flash. After about 20 mins. IE closed by itself. I'm even seeing the yellow bar telling me that IE has no add-ons enabled.

Sometimes it happens as soon as I open the browser as well...it just closes..but rarely does it do that. It closes out on it's own mostly after some time has passed.

Hey thanks for the replies thus far.

Try creating a custom filter in Event Viewer in order take a look at the details of the application crash. Even if you don't get an error when IE disappears, there's probably something in the event log.

I tried that, didn't help much.

I ended up redoing the OS (by mistake actually; long story...wasn't thinking); sucks but in the end it might have been the best thing.

Trying to finish up the installation of all my programs, and configuring settings to my liking...as soon as I get home this evening an image backup is going to be done.

    Lesson learned!

BTW, no issues to report...IE and FF seems to be happy now.

    Thanks all for trying. +Reps
