I go to erase History under TOOLS and then when I go back up to my address bar, all the sites I have vistied are still there.
How do I delete all of my history?
-
May sound like a silly question, but is the check box next to 'History' actually ticked. I'm sure it is, just verifying.
Nevertheless, I find those very 'cleanup' options in IE are mediocre at best. (I've experienced similar issues with it myself) Run ccleaner and I guarantee you wouldn't have this issue. -
Looks like a great program; should I be worried aboutthe default setting wiping things out that I am somehwat unaware of?
More specifically, I let it "analyze" my computer and it wants to wipe out a bunch of apps, mutlimedias and utilities.
Stupid question: this is not the actual app itself it would be erasing? What would (for example) it be getting rid of from Office 2010 or Symentec Antivirus?
Thanks! -
No it wouldn't erase the program itself; It removes temp. files from those programs, cookies, history, cached files, stale registry entries etc. Anything you're not certain of you can remove the tick, 'Analyze' and then 'Run Cleaner'.
One thing you might want to untick is the 'Recycle Bin', But honestly you should be fine leaving the check in for everything else. -
Sometimes stuff gets left in index.dat even after you clear all history. It's a bug in (all versions of) Windows. CCleaner will clear it up.

What am I doing wrong? -
Blasphemy. No way.
What OS is this....? If it's 7 I would do a Repair Install! And which version of IE?
You could try the steps here as well. -
Im not reinstalling now; way to lazy.
I tried the second thing you offered and got a runtime error
im having no other probs other than getting rid of this history.
Im using IE8. Is there a 9 yet? -
Yea there is but it's beta atm. I would just do a Windows Update to make sure all the updates/patches etc. for IE8 are up-to-date.
But yea, the Repair Install fixed issues I had with IE in the past; and doing it doesn't lose any of your files.
IE: why cant I erase my History?
