    Hello,
I am running vista with IE7 on my new HP Lappy.

I'm having difficulty with some software that involves a web import toolbar that works as an IE add-on.

Support for this software suggest that I run IE9 as an administrator.

When I attempt to run admin privleges under properties, I have a grey'ed out panel that says "unable to run as administrator "compatabilty cannot be
set because on this program because it is a part of windows"

I am logged on however as an administrator.

I will attempt later to d/l and install the latest version of IE but I think I may already have it as I just recently did a clean install.

    Any other suggestions?

    thanks

I would think long and hard before using an add-on that requires me to reduce IE's security... and see if there might be any other tools that could do the job. I would also see if I could get the thing to work without the privilege escalation.

But if you really want to run IE with escalated privileges... maybe some of the info in this article will help:

    I don't know if it'll work with IE9 though... ;)

To run IE7 in administrator mode, just right click on the desktop icon and run as administrator.

yes, thanks. Duh it was right there in my face. For some reason I had it in my head that I had to go to properties and go to the compatibility panel where there is a checkbox that allows you run as admin from there...hey its been a long day...
