Not really, but it definitely does suck. Anyone figure out how to get rid of it on Windows 7 and revert back to IE7? I have to use IE for a certain web program I use for school...sucks.

use firefox! that's what I use mainly on my comp running win 7
-
I'm using it fine, whats the problem with it?
-
Yup, no problems here either except for the ocassional browser hang. But it's Beta* so it's to be expected.
If you do want to unistall it you'll need to go to (Vista) CP|Programs and Features|Installed Updates and remove it from there. Probably similar for W7.
(*)- Did you know W7 is beta too? Beta + Beta =/= Fun Times.

Nope, no listing there.

Have you tried running IE8 in "Compatibility Mode"?
In IE8: Tools --> Compatibility View Settings -
I agree, sadly. IE7 is what I use most (I hate firefox) and IE8 has some great features but crashes SO FREAKING MUCH
-
Heh, firefox works so slow on my x64 install that I (in a sense) have to use IE8. But I love it though, it's so much faster than firefox anyway! If only they enable the cookies so I can save login information...

I agree with OP; IE8 for has been very unstable on three machines even with compatibility mode enabled for many sites. It crashes on average twice a day and sometimes a lot more. Of all the sites, this site right here has caused quite a few crashes. Firefox on the same machines ran with no crashes at all; I think IE8 is very buggy and unstable but I'm sure the final version will be fine.

If your using IE, your pretty much asking for trouble.
-
If your still using IE6, then that's still an issue.
-
I use mainly IE7 and actually prefer it to firefox and most other browsers. Never had an issue with it. It's not the case with IE8.
-
Yes, IE8 has an occasional instability, but let's not forget it *is* beta.
But more importantly, IMHO, it is much more C3W compliant. And this is more important since it will allow us to be more browser agnostic; Well, at least from a rendering perspective.
At least IE8 pretty much passes The Acid (2) Test.
This is definitely a step in the right direction, IMO.
A far cry from previous IE vers. I'll gladly take some beta teething problems during an attempt at further W3C compliance. -
I MUST use IE for this web program, Mediasite. Firefox 3 + the WM player plugin don't allow it to work. Everything worked fine when I was using IE7 or FF2. I installed the Windows 7 beta and was apparently forced into Microsoft's beta for IE, as well.

Which version of IE8 are you using, I have found the RC1 to be a little more stable than the version that came with W7 build 7000. I do have issues with "certain" flash movie sites that crash as soon as you try to load it. It causes one core two max out and the memory usage to continue increase indefinitely at about 15MB every few seconds, I've had one process of IE using well over a GB of memory.

use the ietab plugin in firefox and put mediasite into the always in ie list. -
I get MAJOR browser hang with IE8, i loved it but had to switch to firefox because it ran so much quicker on my computer.
-
I'm sorry to say I have to agree. I tried RC1 on Windows XP and besides having annoying rendering problems on most websites, it has a plethora of strange useless buttons everywhere. I didn't experienced any crashes though. Right now i'm on the Opera 10 alpha (which is very stable).
I'm very glad IE8 is now standards complaint and is a good deal faster, but ironically IE6 is holding everything back because everyone making websites still has to make sure theirs works in IE6. -
Eh, the main issue is with internal or intranet sites using outdated (in addition to really, really old or poorly designed web applications), terrible code that forced people to use IE6 to use them. Most sites on the web nowedays, are beginning to worry less and less about that. Until businesses get completely online with at least IE7, then IE6 will finally be put in the grave it deserves.
-
Just wondering?
For those claiming big-time problems with IE8; Did you guys install KB962921
It comes up as an "optional" update when running W7 Windows Update -
IE8 is CLOSER to standards compliant than IE7 is, but it's still way behind any of the other browsers:

The same thing could be said about the 3rd-party browsers with regard to the de facto Microsoft standard.
-
IE8 sometimes randomly deletes my favorites listed in the favorites bar.... meh
-
Microsoft Standard =/= W3C Web Standards
I know you were only joking, but the "Microsoft standard" was the standard up until a few years ago, so it's worth noting that it's no longer the case (thank God!).
IE8 is horrible
