I had an old *** internet explorer, so i decided to update. Once I did though, it started taking over, even though i didn't set it as a default browser. I used to be able to click a hyperlink on msn/aim and it would open mozilla. Now it's opening IE8. Also on my microsoft office XP outlook when i scroll over hotmail email IE8 pops up to view it. When i close it, i get an error message but doesn't do anything.

    windows xp or vista?

EDIT: Actually in either case you should be able to open Firefox and do Tools > Options... > Advanced > System Defaults: Check Now and hopefully that'll let you set it to be the default browser.

...Or by Mozilla did you mean not Firefox but actually Mozilla? Maybe it has something similar...

Anyway, in Vista you should be able to set your default browser in Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs. Not sure where it is in XP though.

Sorry for not being clear. It's windows XP. I don't know why it did make the default browser to IE8. Anyway, now the main problem is my microsoft outlook hotmail opens up IE8 to browse the mail, it gets annoying that it keeps opening up the window without my permission.

MSN is mean and will always open things using IE, a way to fix this is to download StuffPlug3 I think and there is an option for opening links in your default browser which should already be ticked

Try Control Panel->Add Remove Program->Set Control Access and Defaults (a button on the side)

    even that doesnt work.

if mozilla is your default browser then outlook 2007 wont open hyperlinks ..and all MS programs will mostly open with IE.

i think this can be used to Antitrust lawsuit

Find the default programmes box in control panel and make sure firefox is set to open html (And anything else IE is currently set to). That should sort you.

My MSN opens links in Firefox.

Outlook 2007 has always opened my links in both FireFox and Chrome. I haven't had a single link open in IE since I changed browsers, check your defaults before you start working your self up about Anti-trust law suits.
