It still works normally in the address bar itself, but Open gives me nothing. I've never had this problem before. It's also not saving any history today apart from local stuff.

Any idea what could've caused this? I haven't made any changes to Windows or IE settings or installed any new software recently.

Nemt, if you do a CTL H -(in IE 9) then expand TOday do you see anyting other than local? When I run into IE issues, I normally end up going to IE options- advanced- and reset.
I also read that clearing all history may fix the issue. I use delete browsing history on exit so I have not run into this issue. Hope this helps, Josea

I had a feeling that would resolve, that or deleting the index.dat files with CCleaner.
Sure enough it did - kind of annoying though, I'm pretty reliant on autocomplete.

I hear that, I get very frustrated with IE at times but I guess I am too old to change browsers now .

Every browser has its quirks. I've had similar "something suddenly broke" issues with Chrome and Firefox as well. Thankfully it's never been something major, at least not since all sound stopped working in IE5 a decade ago. But that's a story for another topic.
