So I've been setting up my sister's new HP laptop for college (so... much... bloatware!!!).

I'm unsure of which I should create a shortcut for on her desktop. I remember reading somewhere that IE9 64bit had some issues with HTML5, Java, or something in comparison to FF, Chrome, and IE9 (32bit). Is there still an issue? Should I just link the 32bit IE9 to her desktop?

Also, Java was one of the many things I unistalled from her computer (both a regular version and a 64 bit version) but only because I've never used it beyond when I took a computer programming course. Should I reinstall the latest versions (they weren't the lastest as it was)? I don't know why I never saw this till today but I keep running into things where they talk about Java and web browsers? I don't have it on my laptop but never had any issues (I run Vista 32bit by the way).

    Thanks!

To my knowledge, IE9 may be faster in some regards, but is considerable slower in Java.

There seems to be no real future for a 64bit browser. I think it's just a fancy little feature. Since it's not your machine, I recommend linking to IE9 x86. Most programs are going to default to it anyway, since the x64 version cannot be made the default w/o some fancy program file rearranging.

Ok, I'll just make the 32bit IE9 a shortcut then. Also, I'm a little confused on what you said, IE9 runs slower with Java installed? If that's the case, good thing I unistalled it.

IE9 x64 runs slower on Java benchmarks than IE9 x86.

Oh, yea, those are the benchmarks that I think I saw, not sure from where though. It was a couple months ago. So, should I reinstall JRE then?

You're running Vista 32 bit? Seriously? Throw it in the garbage and install a real Operating System like Windows 7 or XP. Anything you install would be better than Vista man.

If I get back into my old college this semester (waiting to here back). I'll be getting Windows 7 Professional 64bit Upgrade for $65, or if I buy a new computer. Otherwise, Vista 32bit Home Premium SP2 hasn't given me any isses. SP1 and prior did though, a lot. The only downside is I get 3.5GB of my 4GB of RAM.

Ever wondered why other browsers don't have a 64 bit version? :D

FF and Chrome and Opera don't offer 64 bit as it is not needed in the real world.

When will you ever have tabs / stuff open more than 3.2 GB? very unlikely ;)

Use x86 IE version it's more comfortable and it should work with most of the plugins and extension for example flash player and like so.You don't need to change to another browser for collage is good easy to use and will work good for most of the tasks ;)
