I use the Witopia VPN service to encrypt my internet connection when I use public hotspots.
It connects using OpenVPN and from what I can tell (and what tech support tells me), there is no way for the software to automatically reconnect when a connection is lost.
This can pose a huge security risk as there is no way for me to know that the connection is lost unless I'm always checking my public IP address.
I'm trying the trial version of IP Monitor, but it's $24(!) and doesn't work most of the time.
Are there any FREE programs that will alert me when my public IP address changes?
Thanks in advance.

DynDns Download the updater; it would always be in the task tray.

Tried it and it crashed twice, so it's uninstalled. -
You can try Hotspot Shield. It had a tray icon that changes color.

The OpenVPN tray icon DOES change icons when the connection is completely lost to the VPN server, but I want a notification, like a pop-up or sound, etc.
I'm surprised that windows can't be configured to give some kind of notification... that would be the simplest way.
IP Change alerter?
