An .iso is the image of a program that is burned onto a dvd, formerly cd once upon a time. For example, Winbeta came out with the original release of Vista 64 bit to its subscribers and it was available on .iso. You downloaded the .iso in many parts and then had a program put the parts back together (such as winrar) on your computer as a whole. From there you used a program, such as IMGBurn, to burn that .iso to a dvd.

Voila, insert the disk and reboot from the disk and you had the installation disk for Winbeta Vista 64bit RC1.

You can also upgrade to Nero 7 or higher, but I'd recommend ImgBurn.

I second "ISO Recorder". It's free and a great tool if all you need is to make and burn ISOs.

ImgBurn is free and it's the best of all, burns almost any cd/dvd image format.
