I'm going to buy an hp dv5z series laptop soon and I was looking for some nice "free" software that I should put on it. I was looking at Calvin's free software guide and there was just way too much stuff to choose from. I just want what is necissary really. If you could help me pick out some "must haves" for me that'd be great. These are some of the things that I would want/need. If theres anything else you could see being needed please throw it in.

    Anti Virus / Anti Spyware
    A good internet browser
    A DVD Burner Prog

I don't want to bog my comp down with too much software, so I really only want whats necissary and helpful.

    thanks!

    Internet Browser: Firefox 3
    DVD Burner: CDBurnerXP
    AntiVirus: Avira AntiVir
    AntiSpyware: SuperAntiSpyware

    For added security, consider:
ThreatFire and Comodo Firewall Pro without Defense+
    or
    Comodo Firewall Pro with Defense+

For all-in-one IM software + e-mail notifier, I recommend Digsby.

If you want Windows Media Player replacement, use:
    Music Player: foobar2000
    Video Player: VLC

Burnaware free edition is excellent! They have stopped distributing it, however I have hosted it for you:
