Something very strange is going on with my laptop. Everything was perfectly fine earlier today. But when I came home and powered up my laptop, 90% of the pictures for my icons are missing, as you can see here:

If anyone might happen to know why and how I can fix it, I'd be very grateful.

Do they come back if you reboot?

I've rebooted and tried two System Restore points, but still no go.

Edit: I guess it may also be worth mentioning that all the icons are there if I boot in safemode, but not a regular boot.

Try resetting your icon cache. To do so go to X:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data and delete the file IconCache.db. You will need to have "Show hidden files and folders" selected in order to see the file.

Did a little more digging and found a solution. I'll quote it here should anyone happen to do a search on the forum again with similar problems. :)

Recreate the Icon-Cache by changing icon size (Another way is to Rebuild Icons in Tweak UI):

    1. Open Control Panel and double click Display-applet
    2. Select Appearance-tab and in Item-dropdown select Icon
    3. Increase Size and press Apply-button
    4. Decrease Size back to old value and press Apply-button
    5. Press Ok-button
