So, I realized this happens quite sometimes, so I decided to ask about it.

I was in class, and I turned on my laptop, and the only two icons in the tray were my AVG and battery icons.

I could use my volume, and connect to the internet and everything else, it just wasn't showing up. I downloaded a reg file for my volume and it's working fine now, but that was only for the volume icon.

It just happens randomly, anyone else have this happen?

btw I have Vista x64, if that has anything to do with it.

    Thanks a lot!

Right-click the Taskbar > Properties > "Notification Area" tab... there are a bunch of things to check or uncheck there for if you want to show or hide icons... click the Customize button for even more icon show/hide options.

I'm on Vista x64 too, and I'm not having any problems... so I don't think that's the issue.

    Hi,

I have the same problem on Vista Home Premium 32bit, sometimes on booting, some random icon doesn't show up, or is displayed incorrect (network says disconnected, but is connected and working, Antivir says deactivated, but is active and working properly...). AND NO, THE MISSING ICONS ARE NOT JUST HIDDEN, BUT MISSING.

Someone else here who knows some solution?

I have the feeling this happens during startup, when too many things try to start or do some operation at the same time during startup.

    Cheers
    Tobi

I have noticed this too on occasion but ALWAYS when on bootup, AVG is running a scan. (I am still on AVG 7.5, BTW.) If I kill the scan and reboot all the icons reappear. Anytime I boot and AVG is not starting a scan durring the boot process, all icons appear just fine.

    @ScuderiaConchiglia

what about rescheduling the scan, so that it waits till the profile is loaded? maybe it delays some processes, who knows.

i'd definitely recommend to upgrade to 8.5 though, besides better core & less resources demand, there are improvements & bug fixes in the latest version of course as well. in other words: it's quite possible that this issue won't occur.

I sent a question about this to the Samsung support, so I'll see if they have a reasonable answer. Unfortunately, I don't know so in-depth how Windows is handling the taskbar symbols and what happens exactly on boot-up to load the symbols (or do not load occasionally).
Maybe some certain process interrupts Wndows sometimes at the point where the icons are loaded.

I also remember, I had similar problems with Win XP during the first time I used the system. Maybe it is more likely as long as a lot of changes are done to the system and new programms (with taskbar icons) are installed?

    Cheers
