 I have Vista home premium 32. Desktop icons keep changing,i.e for eg. Yahoo Messenger's "smiley" icon changed into the default harddrive icon...etc.Whats the possible reason? Any virus?...In general desktop shortcut icons are changing into OS related icons.

i would agree... sounds like a virus. if you can get a hold of trend micro and run it "dos" mode, it may pick up something that AVG isn't. you could have a worm in there as well.

download the nod32 trial and run that, i'd also get malwarebytes and superantispyware.

I had a similar issue on my Vista Home Premium 64 -- (running IE7 and then IE8Beta). Amazingly, when I upgraded to IE8-RC1 the issue disappeared and all icons are remaining the same. :D I like to customize my desktop icons, and they kept reverting back to some kind of generic icon after clicking on them -- but no more. So far, for the last several days, they've remained stable.
