None published yet. Almost certainly will be in Windows 7, though. Which is rumored to be coming out this Autumn.

Firefox is great and all, but I find that it lost its way and became a bit too slow. Now I'm using IE8 (RC1) quite a bit, as it's picked up quite a bit of speed and is very stable.

Edit: Stable might be too strong a word, as the other day it did crash on me. But that could be due to Norton.

I agree IE 8 RC1 is pretty good and you might as well install that if you like IE.. Its much better then IE7 and faster. It has not crashed on me but I don't use it much. FF runs fast on my newer vista machine buts it a bit slow on my desktop but that thing is ancient. I still don't understand why MS does not put a spell check in IE. It comes in handy when writing in these forums. But one new feature that is pretty cool in IE 8 RC1 is if a page crashes on a tab it only restarts that one tab instead of bringing down the whole browser or the OS for that matter. IE8 Beta 2 was definitely a buggy monster compared to the RC. But the idea of a browser being so tightly bound to the OS is not a good idea. Not sure MS did themselves any favors when they did that back in windows 98.

The RC is easy to uninstall so you really don't have much to worry about. MS uninstallers seem to be bullet proof these days.

    my ie8 experience:

wanted to use it once in win7. opened a new tab. a new process got created but somehow didn't manage to go into the tab. ie8 reacted by respawning the process. in seconds, i had 2gb ram filled with 100ts of ie8 processes, system was nearly completely blocked. i had to hard reset, which resulted in an unbootable win7. not even system repair helped anymore. i had to restore from homeserver.

i have to use ie7 at work. i don't see how anyone can prefer that crap over firefox (or google chrome, or opera, for that matter). espencially with the addons, firefox really shines far above ie, and always will (what are ads? adblock is the most batterysaving addon i know).

Firefox has the most annoying interface I have ever seen! I am so used and comfy with the IE interface! Gonna try IE8 RC1 now!

    IE FTW

I uninstalled RC1 as it had lots of rendering issues (even with Gmail). Not patient enough to run all sites in compatibility mode.

Hi, my name’s Feran and I’m working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to provide assistance and help answer questions people might have about Internet Explorer.

Microsoft has not yet announced the official release date for IE8. The IE8 blog - http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/ - will post something as soon as they do make the announcement. So anyone interested in the final IE8 release may want to keep an eye on it.

    I hope this helps!

I've been using IE8 RC1 for a couple of weeks now. I only use it for Outlook web access (Fx doesn't display it well). Seems quicker than IE7 and it's tab handling is neat, especially the color-matched tab grouping scheme... but coolguy's right--it doesn't seem to display gmail well.

Anyway, if you do use IE8, or IE7 for that matter, get IE7Pro, which adds the functionality of many popular Fx extensions, including adblock and mouse gestures.

That said, I still use Fx 90% of the time.

Does that add spell check as well? For me FF just runs smoother.. scrolling is the best I have seen in any browser. IE8 seems like its doing so much more to render pages and it takes longer then FF. Sure its faster then seven but for me FF is like driving a finely tuned car and IE is still sputtering and having some shifting issues. I think IE6 is still MS fastest and smoothest browser but its just outdated now. Still I notice that allot of businesses are still using it.

You can run all of your websites in Compatibility View -- it's so easy: :)

From any Windows Explorer page, go to Tools, then Compatibility View Settings. Check: Display all websites in Compatibility View

uhm. the ie7+ layout is against any form of rules on ui design. it's rediculous stupid.

and firefox is 100% customisable so you can change the layout how ever you want.

my firefox f.e. is very slim configured to have maximum view area of the webpage. it has only some buttons (one for favourites, one for history, one for the ordinary menu as a dropdown, one for homepage, one for load/stop and the back/forward buttons.

Even in comp mode most sites don't render properly. Gmail sucks. There is not even a comp mode for Gmail.

It would be nice if you could have a topic about IE8 anywhere on the internet without a bunch of teenagers rushing in saying DURR GET FIREFOX.

well, as a not-anymore teenager that has to work with ie and deploy apps for big companies, i know the advantages of ie in the corporate business very well. still, it's a very slow app and it crashes rather often. firefox is way-to-go for me since years and i know why. it's not because of, uhm, DURR? :)

i find it funny how people diss firefox for reasons that are simply wrong.. userinterface sucks? well, you can configure it to look 100% like ie7. if you want. not that i ever would like to. ie7 has a crappy designed ui.

ie is not flexible, not configurable. and once you browse the web with adblock, you'll get irritated in ie on every page :) all those flash ads everywhere, terrible.. :)

    I do like DURR :)
