I have gone through the truetype stuff in another thread. I didn't mean to say modern day linux doesn't support truetype, but it is a legal/copyright issue. There are many free truetype font comes with ubuntu but their quality is not up to par comparing with those from Windows or Mac. The exception may be the vera font. Sure you can use some of the fonts that were released by Microsoft yet that still is a Microsoft stuff. And these free to use high quality fonts only support western character sets.
As for word processor, open office is just a few clicks away to install on Windows. Sure it doesn't come with Dell's Windows(they do sometimes come with Work) but that is a packaging issue and there is no difference cost wise which was what my post your response to is about.
Which is prettier is a preference thing. For me, I found the fonts used on ubuntu looks awful.

So effectively, you are buying a notebook that comes with vista free of charge.
Yes, there may be some odd ball brand or white box which doesn't come with OS though that I believe would comprise less than 2% of the whole market. Almost all popular major brands is in this way. -

But as I said, Dell or may be HP models that comes with linux instead of Windows plays only a very very small percentage of the overall market of notebook.
Which is why I said "effectively". -
I just priced the difference on the Dell US site, and it came to $70US, so once the Linux machines are available here, my guess will not be far off at all.

I downloaded Vista, used it as my main OS for a while, and eventually went back to XP. It isn't worth my system resources, or the extra toll it takes on battery life.
If Vista delivered to you Free of charge?
