Im a newbie and just purchased a Compaq Presario F730US laptop. Can anyone tell me the proper steps to take out the Windows Vista program and install Windows XP and where do I get the neccesary drivers/software to do this { is there a website that has them listed for free ?}
And for those that have done this, are you happy with the results ?
Thanks..

Look in the HP section of this forum, there are plenty of instructions there... the drivers are at HP.com.
Fairly simple.... if you can follow directions.
Results? It all depends on what you need... some love vista, some can't stand it... all depends... most experiences are decided between the monitor and back of the chair... not with the device itself. -
I recently went through the process of installing XP on my F730US. Are you still interested in the steps required to perform the installation?

I would like to have the instructions to install XP on F730US.
Please provide them.
thanks. -
You take the XP CD, put it in and reboot the computer....
what's the reason for switching? -
^Back up your data first. Also make sure the BIOS is set to boot from CD - the HP/Compaq screen when you first press the "on" button will tell you what to press to enter Setup/BIOS and from there it's a matter of finding the "Boot order" option, and setting CD/DVD first.
Then, yeah, just put in the XP CD and everything should work. HP's website should have all the necessary drivers available to download; you can use a flash drive or CD to get them to the new computer once XP is installed (you need a modem/wifi driver before you can get to the Internet, so you can't just download them all from within XP).
I switched from Vista to XP, albeit not on a Compaq, and have been very happy with the results. Everything is working most excellently, even with hardware that came out after Vista.
Im a newbie, how do I replace Vista with windows XP ?
