After searching the interwebs all night I can not find a app that does exactly what I need. Picasa Almost did except that it wants to convert .png to jpegs which is not good for the pictures I am using... I have a ton of .png icons and wallpapers, not to mention other pictures in various formats I would love to be able to manage via a app similar to Picasa.. I am trying out windows live version of its photo app and will see how that goes... I would like a app that allows me to manage and view my pictures as well as either upload them to a site or copy select ones to a folder (backup drive)... I know I could back up manually to a drive but the number of pictures i Swift through at one time would take forever that way..
thanks
Edit: sigh.... windows photo gallery + skydrive upload the pictures as . jpeg....

Have you checked IrfanView? They have Irfanview Thumbnails which, I think, allows you to send pictures by FTP.. so you could upload via FTP... and Irfanview Thumbnails offers lots of options to manage all the pictures.. Check it out, if you're interested.

For free backup you could use g-mail drive
Image (pictures) management with a backup feature
