I just upgraded from xp to win7. My former ram was a ddr333 at 753MB and now upgraded to 1.5GB. I got no problems running win7 with my specs, so far so good. I only can't maximise the graphics due to not being able to meet the required graphics card at DirectX 9 and above; hence, I can't make use of the cascading windows, aero, glass-effect, etc.

However, upon boot-up, I ALWAYS encounter this note:
FATAL ERROR: SLIC table pointer isn't what it should be (RSDT). Press any key to continue booting.

The moment I press any key (i.e. space bar, enter, etc.) it normally takes me to Win7 logo loading and then to my start-up page and password, then to my desktop. Works just fine, actually. I just wonder why there's that meddling fatal error that ALWAYS appear EVERY TIME I restart or open my notebook after shutting down.

    Thanks in advance :)

Have you installed your chipset drivers? RSDT stands for Root System Description Table. Also, are there any configurable options in your BIOS regarding ACPI or APIC?

This thread might help you a bit. Seems like you need to replace a RSDTable. I really don't know anything about this, I ust googled your error and this came up.

The chipset driver is in W7 already.

You are either using a pirated version of Windows or you are using an OEM copy on a machine it is not intended for.

Or rather, I should say, I think you are.

What appears to be happening is your copy of windows is looking for a specific bios string that is not there. The error is the windows kernel informing you of this.

I'd do a reinstall from the Windows 7 DVD. Failing that, put back on whatever OS came with the laptop.

    Yeah, right.

I have a PC that came with Vista and installed 7 on it; what is wrong with it? Is it not possible? Illegal?

You are simply wrong; you can install 7 on a PC that came with any other Windows OS.
