    Hi all,

I've just bought a Toshiba c55 1hq. Its sound quality is the worst I've ever heard in my whole life.

DTS sound software doesn't help at all.

What could I install for improving the sound quality? I've tried HEAR software but it doesn't seem to run in this laptop.

    I'm running windows 7.

    Thanks.

How is the sound quality bad, per say?

Like the speakers suck, or something?

Basically, it seems like you need a graphic equalizer or something similar to customize the sound output at different frequencies. I would guess your DTS software has something like that. You'd just need to play around with it a bit to get the best sound.

Outside of regulating sounds of specific frequencies and compression to amplify volume, you run into hardware limits. In other words, it's entirely possible your computer just has bad quality speakers and you would need to physically replace the speakers to get a significant improvement.

Metallic sound with bass lack. It is like... It has no sound driver, the same sound you have when you do a clean windows install. But I have IDT drivers installed....

Dts equalizer just modifies a bit the final sound without getting good result.

The main thing is that I have never heard any crappy laptop with a sound like this (with drivers)

In that case, you just have bad speakers. Unfortunately, the hardware has limitations and most likely it's not working because there are just poor speakers in your system.

Almost all machines nowadays have crap speakers. It's the rule rather than the exception.

    Buy some headphones.

This is the case with most laptop speakers they aren't made for hi-fi audio only the Gaming laptop would come close to having good audio or very expensive midrange laptop that come with exclusive speakers would fill that niche but the rest of the market gets what they get.

These seem to be a low end laptop. You probably get very low end speakers as well. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I have a little cheap Toshiba nb520 and it sounds way better. Also my last HP dv6 had a much better sound.

Obviously I'm not trying to get my msi gaming laptop sound quality.

You could send the unit in for repair if you think it's defective. But otherwise, you can't really compare different brand speakers at a given price point unless they are one of the advertising points of the system. I would personally recommend using external speakers or headphones as much as you can with this system and when it comes time to buy a new one, use your experience to look for one with better sound. This is roughly the process I have gone through when choosing systems: take what I don't like about the existing or previous system I have or had and look for one that does that better.

Get a good pair of headphone and listen through that then...laptop speakers are a hit and miss for good sound quality....so one takes what one gets unless the speakers are bad then that is for warranty support to fix.

I even find external computer speakers lacking. If sound matters to you, connect the laptop to quality speakers connected to a quality amplifier.

Personally, I go DAC + Amp with good headphones at the office. My setup is a FiiO E7 with a pair of Sennheiser HD598.
