This might be a stupid question, but I want to do a clean install of Vista. My partitioning scheme is C: [Windows files, apps] and D: [documents and files]. My question is if i reinstall Vista by formatting the C partition and reinstalling (without changing the partition size), will I still be able to read my files on the NTFS D partition? I know my Inspiron 1420 needs an AHCI driver before installing, so that's why I was a bit worried.

    Thanks in advance

Yes you will still be able to read it as long as you don't format or alter the D partition. It will show up in 'My Computer' as normal.

You shouldn't have a problem with AHCI drivers. It should be built into the Vista install disc.

The AHCI driver thing is for XP... unnecessary for Vista.
