If I plan to clean install 64-bit Windows 7 on my system, what, if any, drivers should I extract to an external drive prior to the process?
I recall extracting ACHI, Intel Storage, Audio, etc. before clean installing Vista on my XPS. What do I need this time around? Thanks!

Windows 7 (and Vista, for that matter) has its own AHCI driver; it's XP that you need to install that for ahead of time. I would recommend you back up drivers for your LAN and/or wireless, because if Windows doesn't automatically find drivers for them, then you'll have no way of accessing the internet to get your other drivers. Once you have your networking set up, then feel free to download all the other drivers.

Your best bet and probably the easiest is to get them directly from the manufacturers website. judging from your sig, download the audio drivers from realtek. graphics card from Nvidea. The windows 7 has the lasest intel drivers for the wifi and chipset. try to get the real windows 7 drivers and now vista ones even though they might work. good luck!

The barebones driver you need is wireless/wired network driver, if Win7 doesn't detect. Then download the rest from the Internet.
Install.
