So, I have a copy of vista ultimate on the way thanks to the feedback program. It is supposed to be here "by the end of April," but my PC could use a reformat now. I own an OEM vista premium disk, can I use it to install ultimate 64bit (or even 32bit) then input the validation code when my "ultimate" disk arrives? I thought I read somewhere that every vista disk contains data for every version but only includes 1 validation code for a specific version you purchase, is that true?
Any help is greatly appreciated.![]()
Also, sorry if something like this has been posted but the search feature has been "disabled" for me tonight??![]()

Obviously, its going to bug you about activation for a while...but I don't see why it wouldn't work. It has to be a Vista disc, and not one of those stupid recovery DVDs though.
As for the search features...its been disabled so that we can try to eliminate some slow down on the forum. Its only temporary. -
Thanks for the quick reply greg! I bought an OEM 32bit Premium disk so does it contain the data for 64 bit or only 32?

If you buy any version of oem, you only get what you pay for. Only retail Ultimate includes both 64- and 32-bit discs.

I think it'll work fine. You may need this trick if the Ultimate disc arrives late:

Uh, that's right. The DVDs are 32bit or 64bit...not both.

I updated my laptops with a full install retail version of Vista Ultimate with no problems whatsoever. Gotta warn you though, it will take sometime to do so. I would recommend just to clean install the Ultimate instead. Make sure you burned all your drivers first and have all your available programs handy. For HP is under the SWSetup and Dell will give your the discs.
