edit: woops, I meant AHCI in the title :)

    Hi,

I've been trying to install XP over my pre-installed vista on my notebook. I've got a partition set up, but when I boot from the XP disc, no partitions are available. I've been looking around since yesterday, and I think the problem lies with the SATA hdd (at least I think). I've been looking in BIOS to disable the SATA native support (that's what I read in a guide), but my BIOS is really limited, I can only change where to boot from and the language...
So I've been looking some more and I've seen that with nLite I'd be able to make an install disc for Windows XP, and integrate AHCI drivers on that disc to make sure it would recognize the HDD when booting.
Now, I can't find AHCI drivers for my notebooke. It's a HP Pavillion dv6550eb. Ive looked on the hp support site, but there arent many drivers available. Could anyone point me in the right direction to find the drivers I should integrate on the disc?

Thanks in advance, I'm really at a loss right now...

If there are any others ways to install XP instead of vista, feel free to let me know btw :).

You can get AHCI drivers @ Intel Download Site mate , Just download the right drivers for your chipset .

You can get the drivers directly from Intel, if the information on HP's site is correct, then your chipset should be the PM965.

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

Download iata86cd.exe, then you can extract the drivers by using the following commands:

If you still have Vista installed - Go in Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers > Which controller ? - If SATA AHCI 3.0 Controller (or similar), then your issue is related to the SATA drivers during XP setup. Normally notebooks with AHCI enabled, have an option to disable it in the BIOS, but nvm.

At XP setup, you can either Press F6 and install these drivers through a Floppy Drive (iaAHCI.inf is the file needed), or integrate the same drivers into the XP 32-bit install disc, using nlite. There is a discussion on how to use nlite here.
