Sorry, screwed up the last post and could not change the thread name (admin please delete it)

    Anyway,

I have an HP dv9000 with Vista preinstalled on the main HD.

I also have a second 40gig HD on which I would like to install XP.

I would like to duel boot to either operating system at start up.

    So........

    How do I do this?

Is there a guide that specifically stated how to do this?

I have spent a few hours sifting through many web pages but they all seem to give different examples: vista after xp, XP after Vista, Partitioning, separate drive. Anyway, I thought i would just post to make sure.

I have an XP boot disk, my own Serial, xp drivers for the XP OS, I also have vistabootpro.

All I need is a series of steps to follow.

    Thanks for all replies :)

i have never done this before so don't quote me on this, but I've done a few Xp and XP before, and I think if I recall correctly, the newer install will just create a bootable OS list. Now it might be different with Vista, and different HDD, but you can try. Or maybe someone else knows better.

Well for the most part, you're supposed to install the older OS first, but in the grand scheme of things I don't think it should make too much of a difference save that XP is now generating the "boot manager" instead of Vista... I've only tried XP then Vista, though.

And it should just be like any normal installation process. Plug in the disk, select where you want to install the OS and let it go.

I actually have this on my m9750...I have vista ultimate on 1 hdd and xp pro on the 2nd hdd.

i just booted from the CD/DVD and installed the partition of the OS on a hdd & did the same for the other...

but it does work, you just have to tell which OS to boot into @ start up
