I have a HP laptop with Windows 8.1 and a folder with drivers from HP (swsetup).
Is there a way to make Windows scan all the hardware and search/install the drivers in a folder?
I read about dpinst but I don't really get it.

It doesn't happen quite like that - the drivers aren't that many to install one at a time. This takes time but reduces your chances bad installs or corrupted drivers that will lead to problems later on. I wouldn't use Windows to do such setup as your doing. Download the drivers from HP site isn't that hard to do nor is installing them-I find that is far quicker and less time compared to doing a Windows Update for Windows O/S updates. That's from my experience and opinion so take it for what it is worth. And from the dpinst it sounds like it for a Windows O/S only not 3rd party drivers. Just looking at some of it's instructions and I can see why people won't use it. I just self install the HP drivers one at a time and that worked fine. If your doing a clean install just get all the right HP Win8.1 drivers and save it to a USB and install from there or copy to the C: temp folder and install the drivers from there. The amount of Driver installs you have to do isn't that many to get your HP to work properly. I got multiple HP laptop and I do it this way and it works fine.

So no one knows how to do this?

I've looked into it, there are two ways to do it. This is not news in any way, I'm just sharing in case anyone else needs it.
The easy way: Use HP Software Setup. This is the program that comes with the HP driver DVD and is used when you do a fresh install using the HP Windows DVD. Update the drivers before you start.
The advanced way: Use HP Softpaq Download Manager. This one gives you more options.
Install a number of drivers from folder automatically?
